SOFIA ISSUES A STATEMENT ON GENOCIDE Translated by L.H. Bulgarian capital Sofia Municipal Council issued a statement on the Armenian Genocide, Armenian Foreign Ministry press service reported. The statement reads in part: "The annihilation of 1,5 mln Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915-22, as well as their mass eviction and banishment committed by the government of the Young Turks is a proved historical fact. These incidents are observed as genocide against the Armenian people and wholly correspond to the UN convention. According to the humane traditions of the Bulgarian people and the Armenian and Bulgarian peoples’ common fate under the yoke of the Ottoman Empire, we, the Municipal Council deputies, express our collaboration and sympathy with the Armenian community in Bulgaria, and as well as unite in commemoration of the victims of the Armenian Genocide on April 24". |
