WORD ‘GENOCIDE’ FIRST HEARD IN ISTANBUL CINEMA "Golden Apricot" film festival press center "Don’t Forget Me, Istanbul" was screened on the sidelines of the Istanbul International Film Festival. It tells the stories of people representing different nationalities in the multi-cultural Turkish town. It consists of five feature novels, the authors of which are representatives of different nations – Armenian, Greek, Jew, Palestinian and Turk. Huseyn Karabei is the producer of the project. Laureate of "Golden Apricot" film festival Erik Nazaryan is the author of one part of the film. He tells the story of an Armenian musician from Diaspora who plays oud (musical instrument). The musician comes to Istanbul to find the house-workshop of his grandpa who used to be a famous oud master. Featuring the story of one family, the author makes attempt to represent the harsh life of an Armenian in Turkey. French Armenian actor Jackie Nersisyan plays the title role. Interestingly, the word "genocide" was first pronounced during the screening of the film in the center of Istanbul. Armenian audience will have a chance to watch the film during the eighth Golden Apricot International Film Festival scheduled for this summer. |
