Armenia's Cosmic Ray Division (CRD) has been selected by the World Summit Awards (WSA) grand jury for having one of the top five WSA products in the category of e-science, Armenpress reported. Its web site DVIN for ASEC (Data Visualization Interactive Network for Aragats Space Environmental Center) was selected out of 800 projects from 136 countries nominated for this competition.    Announced last week, the winners were selected in mid-October by a panel of experts from 36 countries. As one of the projects with best content, CRD's DVIN will be officially announced and presented at the WSA Exhibition in the framework of the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) 2003 in Geneva, Switzerland, from December 9 to 13.

Prof. Ashot Chilingarian will accept the award on December 10 at a special ceremony called the WSA Showcase Event. WSIS is held to extend and harness information and communication technologies, and to ensure culturally appropriate content, affordability, and user-friendliness, and to forge policies on pressing privacy and cyber security issues.

Leading representatives from the private sector, United Nations high ranking delegates, United Nation member states' government officials, and, above all, by heads of States will be attending the summit which is organized on the initiative of the United Nations and International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Armenia's President Robert Kocharian will be heading Armenia's delegation. Participants will pay special attention to national strategies and preservation of cultural diversity.
